Everything Would Be A Lie
Dennis Wilson clutched his chest as he stood there. Despite his best efforts, he could not believe what was being said on the other end. Could it all be true?

Everything he thought he knew would be a complete lie if it were true. Until now, he had no idea who the woman on the phone was.
The Wilsons
Dennis Wilson loved nothing more than grilling hot dogs and watching TV in Charlotte, North Carolina. As a retired law enforcement officer, he had earned the right to take some time off.

An excellent and loving family was also part of his life. He had three grown children with his wife, Sheri, after 40 years of marriage.
Finally Together
When Sheri's husband, Dennis, retired from the military, they had more time to spend together since she had been a stay-at-home mom.

Having waited so long for Dennis, Sheri could finally take that trip she always wanted. Sheri, however, kept something from Dennis that he needed to be made aware of.
It was Significant
The incident was so significant that it would threaten their marriage and their whole family. Dennis was on the verge of discovering the truth.

There was no way he could have predicted what was about to happen. Dennis had just finished grilling on Sunday afternoon when the phone rang. He had settled into his favorite chair after grilling.
Ignoring It
Nevertheless, he wasn't inclined to leave the comfort of his seat to answer it since he was so absorbed in the playoffs. Eventually, he hoped his wife, Sheri, would answer his call.

Dennis returned to watching the game and munching on his hot dog after it stopped ringing. There was a second ring, however.
No One
Could you please get that for me, Sheri? He called out to his wife. However, no response was received. In retrospect, he realized he had forgotten that Sheri had gone grocery shopping.

He stumbled to the phone with a frustrated mumble. “Wilson residence, what can I do for you? ” he answered. However, nothing was there. "Good day, there. Is there anyone here? I hear you breathing, you know," he said.
No Sense
The line suddenly went dead as Dennis continued listening. A sigh spread across his face as he shook his head in disbelief. “People and their manners these days.”

He sat down and mumbled about missing parts of the game as he grabbed another beer from the refrigerator. Suddenly, the phone rang again.
Ringing Again
This had now become a great annoyance for Dennis. Instead of getting up this time, he let the phone ring continuously.

Eventually, Dennis had enough after the phone rang again and again. Someone was trying to reach him or Sheri.
Asking Again
Dennis reluctantly picked up the phone as it rang nonstop. “Hello. Who is this? ” he asked as he waited to hear if anyone was there on the line. He continued, “Could you please stop calling me if you won't say anything?” Trying to put the phone down as soon as possible, he said, "I'm watching the game."

A voice finally came through before he could speak. “Hello, I’m sorry. Can you tell me if this is Dennis? Dennis Wilson?”
Overdrive
Standing straight, Dennis asked, “Can I ask who wants to know?” When his full name was called him, he felt very nervous. Immediately, his police officer instincts kicked in.

As he awaited the person's following words, he felt himself starting to shake. A woman asked, "I'm curious.". That didn't sit well with Dennis. The woman in question, who was she?
Danica
“Can you please identify yourself? Why are you looking for Dennis Wilson?” he asked. It was the policeman in him talking. He just heard heavy breathing on the other end.

Then, eventually, the woman replied, “My name is Danica McCarthy, and I need to speak to Dennis Wilson about something.” Dennis strained himself, trying to think who Danica was.
Intrigued
“Danica, what is it that you need to tell Dennis?” he asked. He was becoming very worried, but at the same time, he was very intrigued. He wanted to know what this was all about.

“Are you Dennis Wilson?” she asked. Dennis could hear the eagerness in her voice. What did she want from him?
The White Pages
She then went on to say, “Um, I don’t know where to start, but I got your number in the white pages after finding out your name and what you did for a living. I know you’re a cop,” she said.

Dennis was now becoming very nervous. He couldn’t listen to how the woman was talking about his life without knowing exactly what her intentions were.
Not Pleased
“Excuse me, miss, um, Danica. What is this about? Why do you know my name, and how do you know that I’m a cop? Have you been watching me? Are you some kind of stalker?” he replied.

He made sure that she heard that he was not pleased at all. “I got your name from my mom. Her name is Olivia McCarthy,” she said.
A Revelation
Dennis scratched his head. He didn’t know someone named Olivia. “Listen, I don’t know any Olivia, and I don’t know what this is supposed to be about,” he said, sounding very annoyed. He had missed half of the game already.

Then Danica revealed something chilling. “Well, what I’m trying to say is that she revealed to me just recently that you’re my father. So I just wanted to call to tell you that.”
Not Funny
Dennis nearly choked on the beer that he had begun sipping. His heart was racing, and he clutched his chest. He didn’t know what to say.

“Listen here, lady. I don’t know what kind of prank this is, but I’m a married man and have three children. I don’t know who you or Olivia are, but this isn’t funny,” he angrily replied.
Disturbed
He was just about to hang up when Danica said, “But didn’t you get them?” Then, Dennis heard his wife’s car outside. He quickly said goodbye, hung up the phone, and pretended to be watching the game.

But deep down, he was really disturbed by the phone call he had just received. He couldn’t get it out of his mind.
A Strange Phone Call
That evening, while Dennis and Sheri were watching their favorite programs, Dennis felt the need to tell Sheri about the unnerving phone call.

“I received a very strange phone call while you were out today. A woman called, saying that I was her father. Can you believe that?” he chuckled. However, he noticed Sheri looking down.
Something Is Not Right
“Did you hear what I said, honey? I got a weird phone call today. Some lady claims I’m her long-lost daddy,” he said again. But by the look on Sheri’s face, something didn’t look right.

“I knew this day was going to come, and she finally called,” was all Sheri could muster. Dennis sat up and looked at his wife in confusion.
Sheri’s Secret
“Sheri? Why do you look like that? And what do you mean by “you knew this day was going to come?” he asked her. Sheri looked down. She didn’t know what to tell her husband.

“Den, I’ve been keeping something from you for 25 years. That woman that called, she is your daughter, Danica. I’ve known about her for so long,” she replied.
The Box
Dennis clutched his chest again. This time, he felt like his heart had been ripped out. “What are you telling me? How did you know about her, and why didn’t you tell me?” he asked, very upset this time.

Sheri got up and walked away. When she returned, she was carrying something in her hands, a box. “In this box are all the letters she wrote to you over the years. I just couldn’t give them to you and risk losing you, Den,” she cried.
A Treasure Trove
Dennis couldn't believe his ears. He was in a state of shock, his emotions ranging from anger to sadness. As Sheri placed the box of letters on the coffee table, he hesitated but then reached for it slowly. He opened the box and started sifting through the contents.

It was a treasure trove of heartfelt letters from a daughter he never knew existed. Each letter was a chapter of Danica's life, filled with her yearning for a father who was absent.
Pain And Longing
Tears welled up in Dennis' eyes as he read through the first few letters. The pain and longing in his daughter's words were palpable, and he felt a profound sense of guilt for not being there for her. He understood now what Danica meant when she said, “Didn’t you get them?” over the phone.

He couldn't believe that Sheri had kept this from him for so long, and he wondered how they would ever recover from this revelation.
A Whirlwind Of Emotions
Sheri sat down beside him, her eyes filled with remorse. "I know I should have told you, Dennis, but I was afraid of losing you. I thought if you found out about Danica, you might leave me," she confessed.

Dennis looked at his wife, struggling to process the situation. His mind raced with a whirlwind of emotions, but he knew that the truth had finally come to light.
Doing The Right Thing
He turned to Sheri and said, "I can't believe you kept this from me for so long, but I also can't turn my back on my own flesh and blood."

They both knew that things had changed irreparably, and they had to confront the past they'd hidden for a quarter of a century. Dennis needed to reach out to Danica to understand her and try to rebuild a relationship that should have been there all along.
Calling Danica
As Dennis picked up his phone to dial Danica's number, he couldn't help but wonder what other secrets lay buried in the past, waiting to resurface and shatter the world he thought he knew.

The phone call that had initially interrupted his football game had brought to light a truth he could no longer ignore, and it was a truth that would reshape the lives of everyone involved.
It’s Me
Dennis dialed the number, and as the phone rang, his heart pounded in his chest. He knew that this conversation was long overdue, and he felt a mixture of nervousness and anticipation. Finally, a voice on the other end answered.

"Hello?" It was Danica's voice again, tinged with uncertainty. "Dani, it's me, Dennis, your dad," he replied, his voice trembling slightly. "I've just learned about your existence, and I want to understand. I want to make amends for all those years we lost."
Is It Really You?
Danica hesitated for a moment, and then a tearful voice came through the line. "Dad? Is that really you?"

Dennis felt a lump in his throat as he replied, "Yes, it's me. I never knew about you, and I'm so sorry for not being there. Can we meet, Dani?" Danica, overwhelmed with emotion, agreed to meet her father. They arranged a meeting, and Dennis couldn't wait to finally embrace his long-lost daughter and start a new chapter in both their lives.
Reconciliation
As the days passed, Dennis and Danica embarked on a journey of discovery and reconciliation. They navigated through their shared history and began to build a genuine connection, one that had been missing for far too long.

Sheri, too, supported their efforts to mend the bonds that had been broken. After all, she played a significant role in keeping them apart.
A Transformation In The Family
In the end, the unexpected phone call that had disrupted a crucial football game had unraveled a hidden chapter of Dennis's life, leading to a profound transformation for his family.

As they confronted their secrets and embraced the truth, they discovered the power of forgiveness and the possibility of rebuilding the relationships that had been fractured by a lifetime of silence.
