QAnon Congressman Cawthorn Tweets Ageist Criticism of Pelosi

Something is going on with a trio of Republican freshmen representatives who all have connections to the QAnon conspiracy theory. Along with Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene, North Carolina Rep Madison Cawthorn got into the House under dubious circumstances and is now trying to make a name for himself by making outlandish claims and accusations against Democrats. Cawthorn, who uses a wheelchair as a result of a car accident in 2014, still has a section on his website entitled “Election Irregularities” and often uses his Twitter account to push MAGA and QAnon talking points.

Now Cawthorn has decided to join Boebert and Greene in openly criticizing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, which others with years of political work under their belts already know is a terrible idea. Still, Cawthorn is trying to impress his Republican elders by mimicking their language and using the same tactics in attacking Democrats.

Cawthorn has been accused of helping to incite the attack on the Capitol on January 6. Less than a month before the insurrection, as a Congressman-elect, Cawthorn encouraged a crowd at an event in Florida sponsored by the pro-Trump group Turning Point USA to “lightly threaten” their members of Congress and tell them “everybody is coming after you.”

Soon after the January 6th Capitol attacks, Cawthorn called into the ultra-conservative Charlie Kirk show to talk about the events of that day:

“I believe that this was agitators strategically placed inside of this group — you can call them antifa, you can call them people paid by the Democratic machine — but to make the Trump campaign, the Trump movement, look bad. And to make this look like it was a violent outrage, when really the battle was being fought by people like myself and other great patriots who are standing up against the establishment and standing up against this tyranny that we see in our country.”

So it’s not surprising Cawthorn made the strategically unsound move of attacking Pelosi for her age, and that’s never a good look, no matter how young and cute all of your social media photos are, and Twitter was quick to remind Cawthorn of his place.

Nice try, Madison. Don’t get too comfortable in the House.
