QAnon Claims Boulder Mass Shooting Never Happened
Within hours of news breaking about the mass shooting in Boulder, Colo., that left 10 people dead, including a police officer father of seven, the totally delusional adherents to the QAnon conspiracy theory began declaring it a “false flag” event in which no one actually had died.
Just like they do after every mass shooting QAnon supporters pushed out the theory that the scenes shown of the aftermath of the supermarket shooting were all staged by actors in an effort to renew support for gun control legislation. Some claimed that bystanders must have been actors because they weren’t reacting the “right way” to their environment.
“No question Boulder, Co incident today was a false flag. The only question is by which side?,” one QAnon profile, who has more than 260,000 subscribers on Telegram, wrote. Another account, with more than 58,000 Telegram followers, wrote: “This Boulder situation reeks of false flag. Anons will pick this apart in a matter of hours if it is.” Still another Telegram user wrote: “Nobody died. I was there for an actual shooting. This was 100% fake fake.”
On the Gab social network, one influential QAnon advocate with more than 79,000 followers also claimed the mass shooting was a “false flag” to help push gun control legislation, as well as suggesting it is a distraction technique to take people’s attention away reports of immigrant children in U.S. custody at the border under Joe Biden’s administration.
On the Reddit channel r/conspiracy someone made this claim and speculated why there are more reports of mass shootings in the country. “It’s almost as if there’s active gun control legislation sitting in congress that an ‘event’ or several ‘events’ would help create a perceived need to get it passed in the senate.” That post has received hundreds of replies.
Just 10 days before the shooting in Boulder, a judge ruled that the city could no longer enforce its ban on assault-style weapons and large-capacity magazines, which was established in 2018 following a school shooting in Parkland, Florida. The NRA bragged about its role in blocking enforcement of the law.
What happened in Colorado yesterday was predictable & preventable. This is why we have to stop the NRA. Boulder had passed an ordinance banning assault style weapons. Six days ago, the NRA blocked that law from enforcement through a lawsuit. They called it Victory in Colorado. pic.twitter.com/FggjRacGiC
