Popular Democrat Val Demings is Right on Marco Rubio’s Heels in Florida Senate Polling
For a number of years now, it seems like Florida has been slipping away from Democrats. At one time, the quintessential swing state was always up for grabs. But over the last couple of years, Republican have won the major elections with Rick Scott becoming a senator and Ron DeSantis being voted into the governors office. Donald Trump carried the state in both 2016 and 2020.
That doesn’t mean, however, that Democrats have given up on trying to win big seats in the state. A few months back, Val Demings announced her intention to run against Republican Marco Rubio. And according to new polling in the state, she has a real chance at winning his seat.
Demings has become a national figure thanks to her performances during congressional hearings and being on Joe Biden’s short list for Vice President. A recent poll conducted by St. Pete polls showed Rubio with only a 48% to 46% lead over the challenger. The margin of error for the poll is 2.2%.
It is always a bad sign for an incumbent senator to be polling under 50%. Rubio, once seen as one of the next big things in Republican politics has seen his popularity wane over the years.
