Poll: Majority of Republicans Say Trump Better President Than Abraham Lincoln
Republicans really, really like Donald Trump. While his approval rating among his base isn’t quite the 95% he often claims, it is still quite high. A Washington Post poll conducted in November showed his approval among Republicans to stand at 74%.
And a number of those approving of the President are die-hards, willing to overlook any of the controversies Trump finds himself in. A new poll from YouGov shows just how fanatical some of his supporters are. When asked who was the better President between Trump and Abraham Lincoln a majority 53% of Republican respondents said Trump.
These numbers were starkly different then when Democrats or Independents were asked the same questions. Democrats favored Lincoln 94%-6% and Independents favored the 16th President 78%-22%.

The Republicans often refer to themselves as “The Party of Lincoln,” and some within the faction have attempted to tie Trump and Lincoln together.
Earlier this year, Newt Gingrich told Sean Hannity, “I think the person whose situation is the most like President Trump’s was Abraham Lincoln.”
Trump has also tried to compare himself to the legendary President, though he though his own situation was more trying. “Abraham Lincoln was treated really badly,” Trump said. “I must say that’s the one. If you can believe it, Abraham Lincoln was treated supposedly very badly, but nobody’s been treated badly like me. And this way I can fight the dishonest media, the corrupt media, the fake news.”
The current President also claimed that even Lincoln would not have been able to win Texas with the current Democratic platform. During Lincoln’s election years, Republicans did not appear on the Lone Star State’s ballots.
