Poll: Americans Feel More Confident in Biden’s Cognitive Function Than Trump’s

Questions about Joe Biden’s mental accuity began during the Democratic nomination process. When Bernie Sanders fell behind the former Vice President, figures in his orbit began to suggest Biden wasn’t completely mentally fit for the job. It did not work and Biden is now the nominee.

The Trump campaign, on a whole, has continued to ramp up attacks on the Democratic candidates mental fitness. They have done so while ignoring signs that the President could also be having cognitive issues. The White House strategy could be backfiring as a new poll shows that Americans are more comfortable with Biden’s mental health than Trumps.

A late June poll conducted by Monmouth University asked voters about their confidence in the candidates mental accuity. 52% of those surveyed were confident in Biden’s abilities with 45% said they weren’t. Only 45% were confident in Trump’s abilities with 45% saying they were confident.

A recent appearance at West Point drew extra attention towards Trump’s health when he had trouble walking down a ramp. There was also an instance where the President strangely drank a glass of water.

This has not stopped Trump from attacking Biden’s mental cognition. In a March interview, the President claimed, “Biden doesn’t know, I mean, he doesn’t know he’s alive. I’m against somebody. Think of it. I’m against somebody that can’t answer simple questions. I’ve never seen anything like it, but here’s what I am against. I’m against a very powerful party, the Democrats, and they can take this glass of water and say that’s your candidate.”
