Poll: Active Duty Troops Prefer Joe Biden to Donald Trump
Donald Trump will be happy to tell you that he loves the troops and has been great for them. The President, however, has been quick to slam popular Generals who have criticized him. Trump also took flak for ordering the firing of Naval Captain Brett Crozier who blew the whistle on a COVID outbreak on the USS Theodore Roosevelt.
And it seems like Trump’s actions are having a profound affect on his standing with members of the military. A recent poll showed that active duty troops prefer Biden to Trump.
The poll was conducted by the Military Times. They have conducted a survey on Trump’s approval rating among troops since the start of his term.
When Trump took office back in 2016, he had an approval rating of 46% among active military members. In this current survey, 42% of troops said they strongly disapprove of the President.
When asked about their preference for President, 41% of respondents said they planned on voting for Biden and only 37% said they would vote for Trump.
“The latest Military Times poll shows a continued decline in active-duty service members’ views of President Donald Trump and a slight but significant preference for former Vice President Joe Biden in the upcoming November election among troops surveyed.” https://t.co/iaxO1KM15X

These numbers are made all the more striking by the fact that 40% of those polled identified as Republicans while only 16% identified as Democrats.
Peter Feaver, a professor from Duke University said of the numbers, “It’s fair to say that Trump is not as popular as Republican nominees have been in the past among this group. The bottom line is that in 2020, Trump can’t be claiming to have overwhelming support in the military.”
