Pete Buttigieg: Trump Decision to Drop Out of Debate is "Extraordinary Show of Weakness"

During a Friday morning on Morning Joe, Pete Buttigieg mocked Donald Trump for dropping out of his scheduled debate with Kamala Harris.

Trump had agreed to a September debate back when Joe Biden was President. Rather than keeping that debate on his schedule, he is now arguing that Harris might not be the candidate and he wants to wait and see.

The former President was between a rock and a hard place. Harris is a fierce debater, and it would likely make him look quite bad. On the other hand, dropping out makes him look scared and weak. That was the point that the Transportation Secretary made on Friday.

"Tough talk is this guy’s calling card," said Buttigieg. "And now there’s this extraordinary show of weakness… he said anytime, anyplace, but more than that, he agreed to this specific debate, on this specific network, on this specific date, and now he’s pulling out. It shows that he’s afraid."

Buttigieg is also being vetted as a potential Vice Presidential candidate for Harris and was asked about the possibility that he would take the job. He responded, "she’s going to make that decision, and she knows what she’s doing. What I know is that I am really excited in whatever capacity to be part of this campaign."
