Paul Gosar Tweets, Deletes, Hateful Transphobic Anti-Immigrant Conspiracy Theory After School Shooting

Paul Gosar has struck again, tweeting out a conspiracy theory that directs hatred and vitriol at two of the demographics the right most loves to hate: immigrants and transgender people. Spoiler alert: none of it is true.

Gosar has since deleted the tweet, and he’s being called out both for pushing division and hate, especially of a brand that could easily provoke further violence against these groups, and for deleting the tweet — at the same time that he mocked someone else for a deleted tweet.

After a shooter entered a school in Texas and carried out a mass murder, Gosar tweeted to declare that the suspect was “a transexual leftist illegal alien.” Though he deleted the tweet, many users were able to grab screenshots beforehand.

Ironically, at about the same time, he was attacking others for deleting tweets:

He’s getting some backlash for that.

Of course, the claims in Gosar’s tweet were factually false. Reporter Matt Binder has shared that 4chan users were spreading the false claim that the individual was trans, using the real photo of an innocent individual to promote the theory, and that the innocent person has posted new photos to prove that they are not the (deceased) shooter.

Unfortunately, lies can circle a right-wing website ten times before the truth can biometrically unlock a smartphone, and Gosar — who is already in the national spotlight for his appearances at white supremacist rallies — isn’t making any effort (surprise surprise) to correct the propaganda he promoted.
