Yesterday, it was reported that former White House Aide Omarosa Manigault Newman had recorded her firing by White House Chief of Staff John Kelly. This has raised significant concerns about security in the White House, given that recording devices are not typically allowed in the Situation Room where this particular recording was created.
This morning, Omarosa released yet another secret recording exclusively to NBC’s “Today” Show, this time a phone conversation showing that Trump seemingly didn’t even know that she had been fired a day after Kelly gave her the axe.
“Omarosa, what’s going on?” Trump asks Omarosa in the newly released recording. “I just saw on the news that you’re thinking about leaving. What happened?”
“General Kelly came to me and said that you guys wanted me to leave,” Omarosa responded.
“No,” replied Trump. “Nobody even told me about it. You know, they run a big operation but I didn’t know it. I didn’t know that. Damnit. I don’t love you leaving at all.”
This new tape raises questions over just how much control Chief of Staff John Kelly may actually have had over the White House. It’s been reported over the past few months that Kelly’s power within the White House has faded. Perhaps firing people without the President’s blessing is one of the reasons why Mr. Trump has been taking back some power from Kelly.
The recording can be heard below.
