Obama Again Rips Trump: “Leaders Aren’t Even Pretending to be in Charge”
It has long been tradition that former Presidents didn’t criticize their predecessors. Of course, no one knew the pressures of the job better than them. Barack Obama has recently begun to break this tradition by questioning the Trump administrations response to COVID-19.
Obama brought the situation up while making a virtual commencement speech to the 2020 graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The 44th President noted that the current administration has basically abdicated responsibility and aren’t “even pretending to be in charge.”
78 different Universities participated in the event with over 27,000 students viewing the commencement speech. While the tenor of the address was hopeful, Obama had no choice but to talk about the virus.
He told the graduates, “More than anything, this pandemic has fully, finally torn back the curtain on the idea that so many of the folks in charge know what they’re doing. A lot of them aren’t even pretending to be in charge.”
Obama also advised the students, “If the world’s going to get better, it’s going to be up to you.”
This was the second time this week that the 44th President has ripped the job done by the administration. Earlier this week, Obama said during a private phone call:
“It would have been bad even with the best of governments,” Mr. Obama said on the call. “It has been an absolute chaotic disaster when that mind-set — of ‘what’s in it for me’ and ‘to heck with everybody else’ — when that mind-set is operationalized in our government.”
