NY Times Haberman: Trump is Upset Because He Doesn’t Think DeSantis Pays Him Proper Respect

Donald Trump essentially demands that anyone in his orbit pays him proper deference and respect. The issue is, however, that respect is often earned. This fact, however, hasn’t stopped most of the GOP from regularly groveling to the former president.

Trump is clearly scared of Ron DeSantis. The Florida governor is a rising star in the GOP and a clear threat to Trump’s status as the head of the party. According to Maggie Haberman, the former president is especially upset that DeSantis doesn’t pay him proper deference.

The NY Times scribe tweeted on Wednesday, “Trump has been telling a range of aides a version of, he isn’t getting the deference from DeSantis that he wants in the pre-2024 leadup.”

Haberman continued:

“Trump could always decide not to run but every indication is he will. And once again he’s moving to set the terms of engagement with his potential rivals while those rivals are mostly averting their gazes and hoping he goes away. And so if DeSantis or Pence or whomever runs they’re gonna have to make a real choice at some point about whether they want to have a cage match every day with someone who enjoys it in a way that 75 percent of the political world doesn’t.”
