Now that they’ve refused to comply with the subpoenas sent from her office, New York Attorney General Letitia James is upping the ante on her civil lawsuit and will compel Donald Trump and two of his adult children, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump, to testify in connection with the fraud investigation into the Trump Organization.
The AG’s initial probe into the Trump Org began with reports from Washington Post’s David Fahrenthold, who obtained financial documents that revealed Trump lied about the number of floors in one of his buildings and the acres of the Trump Winery, which raised questions about whether Trump was keeping two sets of financial books to be used for different purposes. Trump has often been accused of inflating his property values at sale time but devaluing them at tax time.
Eric Trump, who leads the Trump Organization alongside Donald Trump Jr., has already been interviewed as part of the probe. Eric Trump’s testimony came in October 2020 after his lawyers at first attempted to defy James’ subpoenas, stalling the probe for months. The attorney general took the matter to court, with a judge eventually ordering Eric Trump to sit for the interview. Although James has promised to use the same tactics if Trump and his other subpoenaed children refuse to comply, it is unclear when they would testify should her efforts be successful.

But AG James tweeted that if Trump’s adult children intend to defy subpoenas in the case that she will move forward, and she characterized it as nothing more than a delay tactic. Ultimately, however, they will be forced to testify, and the AG indicated the Trump family shouldn’t expect their famous name to protect them any longer.
Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Ivanka Trump are trying to stop my office from interviewing them under oath as part of our investigation into the Trump Organization and Mr. Trump.
Over two years of delay tactics won't stop our investigation because no one is above the law.

James is so determined to see this investigation to its completion, she dropped out of the race for New York State Governor to focus all of her energies on holding the Trump family accountable.
The Trumps will have 3 bad choices when they are compelled to testify in @NewYorkStateAG case:
1 Testify truthfully & incriminate themselves
2 Testify falsely & face perjury charges
3 Take the 5th & then have an adverse inference of liability imposed@TishJames is not playing

In a separate statement, James, who is a Democrat, said that the Trumps had “continually sought to delay and impede our investigation.” James said she would be pursuing legal action to make sure that they “play by the same rules as everyone else.”
