The National Rifle Association took today to discuss a matter outside of gun control and gun safety. While the Saugus shooting was occurring, the organization took to their Twitter account to brag about AR-15 sales in the last month.

At 10:30 AM EST, the NRA tweeted, “As Democrats pushed confiscation, October gun sales jumped 10%. Last month we crowned Beto ‘AR-15 salesman of the month.’ After this massive increase, we think the current Democrats still standing deserve “Gun Salespeople of the Year.”

This tweet was in reference to former Presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke’s stance on gun control. The former Texas congressman said in September, “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47. We’re not going to allow it to be used against our fellow Americans anymore.”

Condemnation came quickly over the NRA’s tweet. Gun control activist Shannon Watts wrote, “This is what the NRA tweeted while the school shooting in Santa Clarita unfolded.”

Cory Booker, New Jersey Senator and presidential candidate, said, “My heart goes out to the students, teachers and parents in Santa Clarita. Thank you to the first responders and law enforcement who are still on the scene. We don’t have to accept our children being terrorized by guns. We demand gun safety. We need to bring a fight to the NRA.”

It is unknown what kind of gun was used in the mass shooting.
