Peter Dinklage has held a lot of acting roles in which his size was part of his character. He’s had nearly three decades of film acting, and somewhat more experience than that at living with a type of dwarfism that affects bone growth. That is to say, the man has a lot of personal expertise in how dwarfism is portrayed, and with how those portrayals affect perception and prejudice.
Is it any surprise that Donald Trump Jr. is angry at Dinklage for daring to speak that experience out loud, and cause something to change?
It starts with Disney. They’ve gotten around to planning a live-action version of Snow White & the Seven Dwarves — and of course, this is one of those Disney titles where there are a lot of ways it could go quite wrong.
According to the New York Post, it’s Dinklage’s considered opinion that it did go wrong. Dinklage referred to Disney’s newer inclusivity, and said, “Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me. You’re progressive in one way, but then you’re still making that f – – king backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together. What the f*ck are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox?”
It’s true that Dinklage has been open about prejudice and about how media portrayal affects that. The New York Times reported in 2012 about him bringing it up in his Golden Globes acceptance and afterward, referring to Martin Henderson, a man who stands 4’2″ and was the victim of an attack in England when he was picked up and thrown, resulting in partial paralysis and the need of a walker.
“This is screwed up.’ Dwarves are still the butt of jokes. It’s one of the last bastions of acceptable prejudice. Not just by people who’ve had too much to drink in England and want to throw a person. But by media, everything.”
So yes, it’s safe to say that Dinklage is speaking from a place of knowledge and awareness.
Don Jr. on the other hand…well, he apparently got his feelings hurt by Disney’s decision to listen to Dinklage and find a different way to make their movie.
“This is getting so ridiculous,” he tweeted Tuesday evening, and going on to suggest that Dinklage’s morals were influenced by his wallet. “I guess it’s all good as long as you’re getting paid?”
He also hinted that the actor hopes to profit from a “Disney consulting gig” by putting his opinions out in public, and asserted that Dinklage didn’t have any moral qualms when playing Tyrion Lannister (despite the evidence that Dinklage did speak out about media portrayal and prejudice during the time that he was starring in Game of Thrones).
LOL… this is getting so ridiculous.
Also, it seems he was fine with the dwarf jokes in GOT. I guess it’s all good as long as you’re getting paid?

Hating on Disney for “going woke” is not a new position for the younger Trump, anyway. He complained in 2018 about the company creating princesses around “identity politics.”
We need Disney Princesses that let kids enjoy childhood rather than subjecting them to never ending identity politics. #DisneyPrincess
