Donald Trump has never been able to hide his admiration for authoritarian leaders. During his time in office, he had a much easier time getting along with Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin than allies like Justin Trudeau and Emmanuel Macron.

Following Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, Trump called the Russian leader savvy. And during a rally in Commerce, Georgia on Saturday night, the former President heaped praise on North Korea’s Kim Jong-un.
Trump told the crowd, “As you probably saw yesterday, now he’s sending long-range missiles up, and he probably doesn’t respect very strongly President Biden. But he liked me. We had two summits. We got along great. I know a lot of things about him.”
The former President then turned his comments to China’s Xi Jianping, saying, “He’s a smart guy, he’s a tough guy.” Well, you know, he runs 1.5 billion people with an iron fist. Yeah, I think he’s pretty smart.”
