Not a Joke: Trump Will be Giving Devin Nunes and Jim Jordan the Medal of Freedom

Donald Trump has made a mockery of many of the privileges he has as president. His pardons have been everything from ridiculous to infuriating. Pardons went to political allies like Duncan Hunter and Chris Collins. They also went to a number of people accused of war crimes.

WASHINGTON, DC – DECEMBER 09: Ranking member of House Intelligence Committee Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) (C) listens to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) during a break in an impeachment hearing before the House Judiciary Committee in the Longworth House Office Building on Capitol Hill December 9, 2019 in Washington, DC. The hearing is being held for the Judiciary Committee to formally receive evidence in the impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump, whom Democrats say held back military aid for Ukraine while demanding they investigate his political rivals. Lately, Trump has been focused on debasing the National Medal of Freedom. He awarded it racist and misogynistic radio host Rush Limbaugh in November. Football coach Lou Holtz received one in the summer as a reward for questioning Joe Biden’s Catholicism during the Republican National Convention.

And now Trump will be using the honor to reward two of the biggest sycophants in Congress. According to the Washington Post, Devin Nunes and Jim Jordan will receive the medals before Trump leaves the White House.

When announcing he would give Nunes the medal, Trump said, “What he’s gone through, and his bravery, he should get a very important medal.”

The Post reports that plans have not been finalized yet for Jordan’s honor.
