The Associated Press is reporting that the North Korean Foreign Ministry says that talks with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are ‘regrettable’. They are also accusing the United States of unfair demands for denuclearization.
This comes only hours after Pompeo told pool reporters that he believes progress was made in “every element” of discussions held between the two sides yesterday.
“These are complicated issues, but we made progress on almost all of the central issues, some places a great deal of progress, other places there’s still more work to be done,” Pompeo stated, according to BBC.
The Associated Press says that a statement made by the North Korean Foreign Ministry today, stated the following: “The US betrayed the spirit of last month’s summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un by making unilateral demands on the complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization (CVID) of North Korea.”
It will be interesting to see how events unfold as a Pentagon team is slated to continue meetings with North Korean officials next week at the border between North and South Korea.
