New York AG Letitia James Won’t be Running for Gov, Will Focus on Trump Instead

Letitia James saw her star rise very quickly. She became the New York Attorney in January of 2019. Not long after she was running an investigation into Governor Andrew Cuomo.

And with Cuomo now out of the picture, the race for the state’s highest seat is wide open. In late October, James announced that she would be seeking the Democratic nomination. But today, she pulled out of the race, saying she preferred to focus on her office’s current probes.

James tweeted, “I have come to the conclusion that I must continue my work as attorney general. There are a number of important investigations and cases that are underway, and I intend to finish the job. I am running for re-election to complete the work New Yorkers elected me to do.”

Of course, the biggest investigation is the one into Donald Trump. Upon her election to the AG’s office, James promised to do everything in her power to go after Trump.

And the next step in that goal could come soon. Earlier today, the Washington Post revealed that the New York investigators are looking to speak with Trump on January 7th.

The former president has already shown that he’s going to try and avoid it. The Trump Organization said in a statement, “This is another political witch-hunt. he only focus of the New York AG is to investigate Trump, all for her own political ambitions … This political prosecution is illegal, unethical and is a travesty to our great state and legal system.”
