This certainly is not Tucker Carlson’s week, and it’s no one’s fault but his own, as numerous old clips of him making racist, bigoted, and lewd comments continue to surface, thanks in part to Media Matters.
Last night, yet another clip surfaced, posted on the NowThis Twitter account. The video has already been viewed over half a million times and shows Carlson clearly mocking and sexualizing teenage beauty queen Caitlin Upton. Upton, who gained international notoriety after a response to a question posed to her at the 2007 national pageant, which didn’t make very much sense, later said that she contemplated suicide after her mistake.
In the 2007 radio interview with shock-jock Bubba the Love Sponge, Carlson made a number of disturbing comments directed towards Upton and teen beauty queens in general, many of whom were under the age of 18.
The conversation about the former teen beauty queen started with Bubba asking Carlson, “How about the Miss Teen South Carolina,” referring to Upton.
Carlson responded, “I gotta be honest. I thought she was kind of appealing… She’d probably be a pretty good wife… if you had a wife that dumb, would it be good or bad?”
Bubba and Carlson then turned their attention to the host of the pageant, Mario Lopez, with Carlson suggesting that Lopez may have had sex with Upton, even though they believed she was under age at the time.
Carlson suggests that there is a 90% chance that Lopez had sex with Upton, before suggesting that it wouldn’t be illegal since “she’s so dumb. She’s like – she’s vulnerable. She’s a wounded gazelle separated from the herd.”
Bubba then asked if it would be a problem because of the age issue. Carlson doubled down, saying, “No! Are you kidding? He’s like James Brown. He gets a pass. The normal laws for that kind of thing don’t apply to him.”
