New Poll Shows Donald Trump is Being Damaged by Military/Woodward Crisis
Just around 3 weeks ago, the Republican party was looking forward to its National Convention. With Donald Trump trailing in the polls, the GOP saw the event as one of the last chances to improve its standing. Not only did the President not receive a convention bounce, he soon had new controversies to deal with.
The Atlantic published a story that alleged that Trump has referred to military veterans as losers and suckers. Bob Woodward then released tapes that showed the President admitting that he had downplayed COVID-19. A new survey from YouGov shows that both these matters have had a deleterious affect on Trump’s poll numbers.
Two weeks back, the YouGov/Yahoo News survey showed Trump down 6 to the Democratic challenger. A new poll, released on Friday, had Biden back up by 10 points.
The poll also asked respondents about the military and Woodward issues. According to Yahoo, when, “asked if their opinion of Trump’s coronavirus response has changed because of Woodward’s big scoop — a tape of Trump privately acknowledging the virus was ‘deadly stuff’ even as he publicly sought, in his own words, “to play it down”— nearly a quarter of Americans (23 percent) say yes. Even 15 percent of those who voted for Trump in 2016 say the Woodward news has changed their mind about the president’s handling of the pandemic.”
For the Nothing Matters crowd:
– 23% say opinion changed of Trump’s COVID response because of Woodward tape, including 15% of Trump voters
– 23% of indys and 6% of Trump voters say troop comments increased support for Biden
– Biden goes from +6 to +10https://t.co/fsphLqlP83

In addition, when, “asked which candidate shows more respect for the military, 50 percent of registered voters name Biden, compared to 39 percent for Trump. By the same margin, voters say Biden would do a better job leading the military than the current commander in chief.”
