New Book: Mitch McConnell Called Trump 'Stupid and Despicable' Following 2020 Election

In his new book, Price of Power, Michael Tackett writes that Mitch McConnell called Donald Trump stupid and a despicable human being in private following the 2020 election.

McConnell and Trump achieved some significant Republican goals together, most notably seating three Conservative Supreme Court justices, but that doesn't mean they like each other.

The Kentucky lawmaker has avoided backing Trump unless he had no other choice. McConnell could have advised the senators under him to prevent Trump from running in 2024 by convicting him during his 2021 impeachment but he said he would let the courts handle the matter instead.

According to the upcoming book, McConnell has been much more critical of Trump in private. He quotes the Kentuck senator as saying Trump is, "stupid as well as being ill-tempered." and also as a, "despicable human being."

ABC News' Mary Claire Jalonick writes that Democrats are sure to seize on these new comments:

"The animosity between Trump and McConnell is well known — Trump once called McConnell'a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack.' But McConnell's private comments are by far his most brutal assessment of the former president and could be seized on by Democrats before the Nov. 5 election. The biography will be released Oct. 29, one week before Election Day that will decide if Trump returns to the White House."
