Nancy Pelosi has had a bit of a week. The Speaker of the House had multiple viral moments during the State of the Union. First, Donald Trump snubbed her handshake. After the President completed his remarks, Pelosi tore up the copy of his speech that was given to her.
And over the weekend, the Speaker continued her assault on Trump and the GOP leadership that enables him. Pelosi wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post where she said that the Republican party has “normalized” Trump’s lawlessness.
The California lawmaker noted, “Their (Republicans) argument was only that Congress and the American people have no right to stop him from using his power to cheat in our elections.”
Pelosi continued by saying that the GOP senators, “embraced this darkest vision of power: that if the president believes his reelection is good for the country, he can then use any means necessary to win, with no accountability or consequences.”
The Speaker of the House closed her comments by writing, “In declaring their loyalty to the president over our Constitution, Republicans have made a farce of the old boast that the U.S. Senate is the greatest deliberative body in the world. Because of the Republican Senate’s betrayal of the Constitution, the president remains an ongoing threat to American democracy.”
