Mueller Report Possibly Delayed By Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner Probe, Says Former Us Attorney
This last week CNN reported that the Mueller report may be ready as soon as next week, before they had to go back on their story after investigators responded with claims that the report would not be released next week after all.
Former U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade appeared on MSNBC this week and provided a theory as to why she believes the investigation may be dragging on longer than originally planned.
McQuade points out that redactions within some of the publicly available documents, released by Mueller, indicate that former Trump attorney, Michael Cohen, who has pleaded guilty to multiple crimes, appears to be cooperating with the Mueller team. This cooperation, according to McQuade, is likely in regards to others besides himself who may have lied to Congress about the Trump Tower Moscow negotiations.
“One area that seems likely to be … under scrutiny by Robert Mueller is whether other people have lied to Congress,” McQuade told MSNBC host Alex Witt. “I would think that if others lied about that matter [or] other matters, then we might see charges against them. That would include Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner,” she continued.
In particular, Donald Trump Jr. told the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2017 that he knew “very little” about any discussions which took place in regards to constructing a Trump Tower in Moscow. If investigators can show that this was not the case, he could face up to five years in prison for lying to Congress.
Ultimately, no one really knows what’s going on behind the scenes, besides the select group of investigators, perhaps the Attorney General and anyone who he may have discussed matters with. It does appear as though the Mueller probe is winding down, but the exact timeframe for its eventual completion is yet to be known.
