On Wednesday, the Republicans in the House voted to nominate Steve Scalise for Speaker. Following the vote, Marjorie Taylor Greene gave a strange reason for why she wouldn't support the Louisiana congressman.
Steve Scalise won a big victory today when Republicans chose him as the nominee for Speaker. Getting to 217 votes, however, will not be easy. Kevin McCarthy had a terrible time getting enough votes just a short time ago.
It looks like Scalise, who is suffering from cancer, still has to win over Marjorie Taylor Greene. The volatile Georgia Congresswoman wrote on her Twitter page:
"I just voted for Jim Jordan for Speaker on a private ballot in conference, and I will be voting for Jim Jordan on the House floor.
I like Steve Scalise, and I like him so much that I want to see him defeat cancer more than sacrifice his health in the most difficult position in Congress.
I lost my Father to cancer and it's a very serious battle.
We need a Speaker who is able to put their full efforts into defeating the communist democrats and saving America."
As Kevin McCarthy learned the hard way, the Speaker candidate can only lose a handful of votes. Considering McCarthy had to make deals with some of the most shady members of the House, Scalise looks to have his work cut out for him.
