Donald Trump has given his endorsement to a number of political candidates. In order to remain the head of the party, the former President must prove that he can support winners.

One of Trump’s more controversial endorsements was for Mehmet Oz, a television host who is a political novice. And some Republicans don’t think that the endorsement is a smart one. That includes former Trump cabinet member Mike Pompeo. The former Secretary of State thinks that Dr. Oz is a flight risk.
Pompeo said on a call with reporters, “We criticize American candidates all the time because they didn’t vote. This is different from that. Not only did he not engage in the American [process] but he engaged in the Turkish political process. That raises in my mind a lot of judgments about his priority.”
The former Trump staffer continued, “Maybe it’s all innocent, maybe it’s all straight up, but we and the people of Pennsylvania and the Americans who he will be representing as one of the 100 members of the United States Senate voting on important national security matters need to understand the scope and depth of his relationship with the Turkish government.”
Mike Pompeo is currently holding a briefing laying out his “significant national security concerns” with Trump-endorsed candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz
The briefing will focus on “Oz’s close ties to the Turkish government and military”

Brittany Yanick, Oz’s Communications Director, said in a statement, “Now that he (Pompeo) lost President Trump’s endorsement, he’s resorted to sad and desperate attacks that are no different than the tropes used against Catholics and Jews.”
