Vice President Mike Pence doesn’t understand why climate change is a “key issue.” Pence made the comments in an interview with Fox News on Thursday evening. Pence questioned why climate change is a “paramount issue for the left.”

He added that he also doesn’t understand why other countries around the world think it’s a big deal either. Pence stated in the interview, “We’ve demonstrated real leadership. We’ve demonstrated real progress. But for some reason or another, this issue of climate change has emerged as a paramount issue for the left in this country and around the world.”

Pence stated in the interview, “We’ve demonstrated real leadership. We’ve demonstrated real progress. But for some reason or another, this issue of climate change has emerged as a paramount issue for the left in this country and around the world.”

While Pence might be confused about the topic, we certainly aren’t. Climate scientists have long agreed that human activity is a significant factor in how out planet is changing. Humans are contributing to global warming at an alarming rate. Without a drastic change, our climate will be irreversibly damaged by these effects.

Climate Change may be a key part of the Democratic platform, but it isn’t a partisan issue. Many Republicans have also called on the White House to address the problem. Members of Trump’s own administration have even lobbied him to keep the United States in the Paris Agreement.

Among those who lobbied him is Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. Even Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner reportedly asked Trump not to leave the historic agreement.

Author J.K. Rowling quickly blasted VP Mike Pence for his climate change comments. Rowling parodied the vice president’s comments in a tweet, writing, “Damn those lefties and their so-called science. What they are REALLY up to, that’s the question. Bet you $10 it’s something gay.”

Rowling probably isn’t the only well-known figure to scratch their heads over Pence’s comments. But when you live in the Red State, climate change is what you believe it is. It’s fake, it’s overblown, and it’s not relevant, right?

Welcome to the Red State…
