Mick Mulvaney: One of Trump’s Only Serious 2024 GOP Challengers Could Be The Rock

Mick Mulvaney, once a congressperson from South Carolina, later became Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff. He saw Trump through some of his biggest controversies including the Ukraine scandal and the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

After resigning from his position as Cheif of Staff, the Republican became the Special Envoy for Northern Ireland. He resigned from that position, however, following the insurrection on the United States Capitol. During a recent interview with Politico, Mulvaney was asked about who could see beating out Trump for the Republican nomination in 2024. One of his choices was quite out of the box.

Mulvaney told Politico, “DeSantis could give him a run for his money. Tim Scott can give him a run for his money. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson could give him a run for / his money.”

Would the Rock be interested in running for President? Maybe. He said in 2017, “I would consider a presidential run in the future if that’s what the people wanted. Truly I mean that, and I’m not flippant in any way with my answer. That would be up to the people … So I would wait, and I would listen. I would have my finger on the pulse, my ear to the ground.”

Mulvaney also suggested that Trump could make Johnson’s race easier. “There’s one other person who could beat him — which is himself,” he opined. “Donald Trump is sometimes his own worst enemy when it comes to campaigning.”
