The GOP is stuck with Mark Robinson in the North Carolina Governors race, and according to former chair of the RNC, Michael Steele, most of the party is okay with that.
The Republicans were going to have a tough time winning the North Carolina race even before a bombshell from CNN alledged that he had made deeply controversial comments online.
In the past, the Republicans have been hesitant to remove controversial candidates like Roy Moore or Herschel Walker and while there were some calls for him to step down, the GOP is now unable to remove Robinson thanks to a deadline this week.
Like most scandals, the Republicans are hoping they can get out of this one by pretending that it never happened. Steele said of their stance this Saturday:
"The Republicans are quietly having conversations, whispering, 'Could you please tell him, could you pull your endorsement?' That tells you all you need to know. The fact that you are saying all of this quietly says you are not serious, you don't really care, you are just going to go on the record to say, we are telling him not to do it."
The former RNC Chair continued:
"Well put your name on a piece of paper so that we can read your words telling Mark Robinson to step out of the race, or at this point, Donald Trump to withdraw his endorsement. They won't, because they are hook line and sinker all in on what Mark Robinson represents as today's MAGA Republican party."
