Robert Mueller reportedly asked President Trump about a 2015 and 2016 project to construct a Trump Tower in Moscow.
According to ABC News, Mueller, currently investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, reportedly submitted the questions to the president in writing.
The revelations come just hours after Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty to providing false statements to Congress regarding the same business deal.
The plea documents demonstrate that Cohen lied to two separate congressional intelligence committees over the length of the project to “minimize links between the Moscow project and individual 1 [Donald Trump] and… [to] give the false impression that the Moscow project ended” before the Iowa caucus and the first presidential primary.
The documents also show that Cohen discussed the project with President Trump more than he revealed to Congress in the fall of 2017. His guilty plea states, “Cohen discussed the status and progress of the Moscow project with individual 1 [Donald Trump] on more than the three occasions Cohen claimed to the committee, and he briefed family members of individual 1 within the company about the project”.
Cohen’s plea this morning, and Mueller’s line of questioning put to Trump in writing, indicate that the special counsel has unearthed stronger ties between the Trump campaign and Russia than were previously disclosed.
Robert Mueller is evidently digging into the Trump Tower deal in Moscow. It might just be where the bodies are buried.
