William Barr was named Attorney General after he wrote a glowing op-ed about Donald Trump. By the end of his term, though, Barr had drawn the ire of his former boss for not abusing his office to punish Trump’s enemies.
Barr is now down in Virginia trying to get on with his life. That won’t be so easy, though. Michael Cohen is suing the former AG and Donald Trump accusing them of using their power to retaliate against him.
Cohen tweeted on Thursday, “This morning I was notified by my attorneys @lauferlaw @NYadvocateJKL that the process server successfully effectuated service on #BillBarr while he was vacationing in Virginia. This is the look they got…Happy New Year a**hole!”

A US District Court Judge agrees with Cohen. Alvin Hellerstein opined in 2020, “I make the finding that the purpose of transferring Mr. Cohen from furlough and home confinement to jail is retaliatory, and it’s retaliatory because of his desire to exercise his First Amendment rights to publish the book and to discuss anything about the book or anything else he wants on social media and elsewhere.”
