As President Trump appears to be set on belittling his former attorney Michael Cohen on Twitter, while also setting up a narrative that the raid of Cohen’s home and office was illegal, Cohen’s former attorney Lanny Davis went on a media blitz of his own this weekend.
Davis, who worked for Cohen during much of his battle with adult entertainer Stormy Daniels, is now only an adviser to him, but he did have some rather interesting things to say this weekend to counter the president’s narrative.
“This is the top law enforcement office in our system of government calling somebody who decides to tell the government the truth a ‘rat,’” Davis told CBS’ Margaret Brennan. “That’s the language of a mobster not of the president.”
Davis made it a point to bring up the fact that Cohen’s integrity prevented him from asking the president for a pardon, and instead he decided to turn against his former boss.
“And he’s going to jail as a consequence and he authorized me, several times to say he wouldn’t take a pardon from Donald Trump if it was handed to him. And let’s remember that Michael Cohen has corroborating evidence for everything that he has said,” Davis stated.
Davis also touched briefly on what Cohen may have turned over to investigators involving Russia’s alleged collusion with the president. He made it clear that Cohen did in fact divulge information on Russians he had met with, as well as the plan to construct a Trump Tower Moscow hotel.
Another interesting tidbit of information brought up by Davis was the claim that the White House knew Cohen was going to lie to investigators and did absolutely nothing to stop him.
“Not one person from the White House, I can tell you this, ever said, ‘don’t lie,’” Davis said.
Last week Cohen was sentenced to 36 months in prison after pleading guilty to nine felony counts.
