Melania Trump Took off Her Mask While Reading to Patients at Children’s Hospital
Donald Trump and his administration has been quite reckless when it comes to COVID safety protocols. The president’s family has been quite reckless as well. During the first presidential debate, the Trump family was chided for the refusal to wear masks during the event.
And due to their recklessness, there have been a number of COVID cases both in the Trump administration and family. Melania Trump contracted COVID in October at the same time as her husband. Rather than being chastened, though, she has continued to thumb her nose at safety protocols. On Tuesday, Trump took off her mask while reading to patients at a Washington DC Children’s Hospital.
Clearly, the children in the hospital would be considered high risk. The policy for the hospital read, “Everyone must wear a mask at all times while in any Children’s National facility to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
Melania Trump told the children, “It is wonderful to be here. This is one of my favorite events during the holiday time and I’m very excited and looking forward to reading a book. I’m thinking of you all. Stay strong and well and Merry Christmas and happy holidays.”
But the First Lady had no interest in following the protocols. According to CNN’s Betsy Klein, “The first lady arrived in the hospital’s main atrium wearing a mask. When she took her seat in front of a tree, she removed the mask. Though she practiced social distancing, the hospital’s policy specifically requires all visitors to wear a mask.”
Klein also notes that when Melania Trump left the facility, she was also maskless.
