The media doesn’t criticize Melania Trump in the same way they criticize other members of the Trump family. When she married Donald Trump, she couldn’t have expected to be in the spotlight the way she is.
In an interview with Sean Hannity last night, she did not extend the same courtesy to the press. During the spot, she railed against the media, sounding very much like her husband.
When asked about the hardest part of her role, Trump said, “I would say the opportunists who are using my name or my family name to advance themselves, from comedians to journalists to performers, book writers… The problem is they are writing the history and it’s not correct.”
Melania Trump does not appear in the media as much as other first ladies. When she does appear on the news, its often due to some kind of charitable effort.
These are the things that she would like the media to cover. She told Hannity, “They like to focus on the gossip. And I would like that they focus on the substance and what we do, not just about nonsense.”
The gossip is on the front page more than ever right now. Michael Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison, largely for paying off women the president reportedly had affairs with.
The Cohen news came the same day it was revealed that David Pecker, the head of AMI, had also worked to shield word of the affairs from getting out. Hannity did not address either of these stories with the first lady.
The interview closed with Hannity asking about the possibility of a second term. Melania Trump took one more shot at the press, “He wants to govern the right way. It’s tough because the media wants to bash and focus on negativity.”
