Mega Trumper Elise Stefanik Wants to Take Liz Cheney’s Role and She Has Support of No. 2 Republican
Republicans have made it clear that they want to strip Liz Cheney of power and Trump loyalist Elise Stefanik is angling for her position.
This week, the GOP is proving that it is all in on Donald Trump. So anyone who has opposed Trump in any form must be punished. Liz Cheney has been a powerful voice in congress, but it looks like she will soon be stripped of her role as Chair of the House Republican Conference.
And from the looks of it, Cheney will be replaced by an extreme Trump loyalist in Stefanik. Stefanik recently received the backing of Steve Scalise, the number 2 Republican in the House.
Lauren Fine, a spokesperson for Scalise, told Punchbowl News:
“House Republicans need to be solely focused on taking back the House in 2022 and fighting against Speaker Pelosi and President Biden’s radical socialist agenda, and Elise Stefanik is strongly committed to doing that, which is why Whip Scalise has pledged to support her for Conference Chair.”
Elise Stefanik = elected as moderate, new wave Republican who evolved into as a Trump loyalist.
Liz Cheney = a principled conservative, voted party line frequently in last four years, but spoke out against Trump after Jan. 6.
Proof positive that Trump loyalty > policy.

Scalise isn’t the only Republican to publicly back Stefanik’s play. Indiana’s Jim Banks told reporters, “I think there’s also a lot to be said for a younger member to get in a position, and to signal that there’s a future for the Republican Party that is younger, and that’s going to help us bring more and more people under our tent.”
And Pennsylvania’s Guy Reschenthaler said of Stefanik, “She was amazing when Trump was facing impeachment, she was one of his biggest defenders and she did that very well, so she has a command of the messaging, which is obviously important for conference chair.”
