Charlie Baker (MA), Phil Scott (VT) and Larry Hogan (MD) all have one thing in common. They are very popular Republican Governors that serve in states that are overwhelmingly liberal.
The trio now has a second thing in common. Baker, Scott and Hogan have all come out in support of an impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump’s dealings with Ukraine.
Baker and Scott announced that they would support an investigation early on in the process. Scott was the first Governor from the GOP to lend his voice in support. He told reporters, “There is a responsibility of Congress to take a vote on this and let us know what they think and then move forward from there.”
Scott also called for transparency from the house. He continued, “I’m not sure that we’re hearing everything that’s happening and that’s why it’s important, again, to be transparent, have a vote … and then have the inquiry to see if the charges and the allegations rise to that level.”
Charlie Baker was also supportive of the investigation from an early point. The Massachusetts governor said, “It’s a deeply disturbing situation and circumstance and I think the proper role and responsibility for Congress at this point is to investigate it and get to the bottom of it.”
Hogan voiced his support during an appearance on PBS’ Firing Line. According to the governor, “I think we do need an inquiry because we have to get to the bottom of it. I’m not ready to say I support impeachment and the removal of the president, but I do think we should have an impeachment inquiry.”
