McConnell Gets Trolled By Trump Supporters After He Tells Them to Get Vaccinated

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) issued an urgent plea on Tuesday to Americans to get vaccinated against COVID19, but the Trump faithful didn’t like it. McConnell tweeted his encouragement for people to “get vaccinated” and added that “these shots need to get into arms as rapidly as possible, or else we’re gonna be back in a situation this fall like what we went through last year.”

McConnell urged Americans to ignore the “demonstrably bad advice” coming from pundits and others against the vaccines. As cases skyrocket, he noted that nearly all the new virus hospitalizations in the U.S. are among people who have not been vaccinated.

McConnell, unlike some of his Senate Republican colleagues, has consistently advocated for Americans to get vaccinated against the novel coronavirus. “If there is anybody out there willing to listen: Get vaccinated,” McConnell said at his weekly press conference at the Capitol.

However, McConnell’s plea seems to have fallen on deaf ears if his Twitter replies are any indication, as  Trump supporters immediately bombarded him with angry messages

Several prominent conservatives have done a fairly severe 180-degree turn from the anti-vaccination rhetoric being pushed by the likes of Marjorie Taylor Greene and Rand Paul. The hosts of “Fox & Friends” and Sean Hannity have all implored their viewers to now take the virus seriously with the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant, which is responsible for the rise in new cases among unvaccinated Americans.

It cannot be shared enough that Donald Trump has said publicly at least twice that his followers should get vaccinated. Trump said it in February at CPAC and again recently on Maria Bartiromo’s Fox News show.

McConnell got dragged the way liberals usually get trolled on Twitter after sending out the opposite message the MAGAts were used to getting, with a serious ratio accumulating by Wednesday evening. He also got his usual response from liberal Twitter, creating an odd conflation where the opposing sides agree that Mitch McConnell is terrible.
