Republican Party leader Kevin McCarthy made a threat towards House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Wednesday afternoon, saying he’ll take steps to remove her should she decide to impeach Donald Trump again. McCarthy made these comments in the wake of the controversy surrounding the empty seat on the Supreme Court left empty by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg last Friday. Despite past comments from nearly all Republicans saying they would never try to push a SCOTUS vote through in an election year, they’ve all gone back on those words.
Adding to the hypocrisy of McCarthy’s statement is his own dubious connection to Rudy Guiliani associate Lev Parnas, who donated money to McCarthy and other members of the GOP. Common sense would dictate directing attention away from oneself amidst new talk of additional Russian election interference, but McCarthy has taken on the same hubris of Trump, believing himself untouchable.
McCarthy made the threat after Pelosi declined to rule out impeachment as an option to stop Trump’s court pick from being confirmed to the bench, saying Democrats will “use every arrow in our quiver” to block the eventual nominee.
If Nancy Pelosi tries to impeach President Trump for appointing a Supreme Court Justice—as the Constitution requires him to do—we will take steps to remove her as Speaker. pic.twitter.com/NIJMgcBbii

In the wake of Trump making threats of his own that he may not accept an election loss and wouldn’t guarantee a peaceful transfer of power, McCarthy’s comments seem intended to incite even more unrest. Responses to his tweet from liberal Twitter quickly reminded him of how the laws in America work.

She won't be impeaching Trump for appointing a Supreme Court justice, but for a host of other issues such as treason, tax fraud, dereliction of duty and many others. #VoteBlueToEndThisNightmare

McCarthy continued, saying, “I will make you this one promise, listening to the speaker on television this weekend, if she tries to move for an impeachment based upon the president following the Constitution, I think there will be a move on the floor to no longer have the question of her being Speaker.”
Nancy Pelosi was too busy doing her job to respond to McCarthy, focusing on her party’s latest accomplishment to protect the country, and stayed on this message throughout the day.
