Matt Gaetz: Seize Assets Of Chinese Businesses In U.S., Give Them To Americans
Florida Representative Matt Gaetz believes he has a solution for costs associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, at least for Americans. His suggestion? Seize assets from businesses operating in the United States with Chinese ownership, and redistribute them to Americans.

Speaking on Fox News, Gaetz promoted the idea that China is responsible for the virus, and should be made to pay.
Instead of bailing out Chinese businesses in the United States, we should see their assets and put them in receivership to pay damages to Americans who’ve suffered as a consequence of the Wuhan virus. Here’s how we do it. First, we pass the Dan Crenshaw, Tom Cotton legislation to make China financially responsible for the damages they’ve caused.
“And then, when the lawsuits are ultimately filed to hold China accountable, you don’t just let them continue to operate their assets and their businesses in the United States. You use the judicial process to put all of that in receivership. That’ll get China’s attention. That’ll hold them accountable. That’ll make the American people whole.”
Gaetz has been promoting legislation that would prevent any relief funds for the pandemic from benefitting companies with Chinese ownership, saying that China’s government has lied about the virus, worsening the outbreak.
China’s inaction, distortion of data, and outright lies have exacerbated the global coronavirus epidemic, and helped fuel its rapid global spread…Every single American worker displaced by COVID19 should be fully compensated, before one nickel from our treasury goes to Chinese-owned corporations operating here in the United States. Full stop.
The legislation he described on Fox Sunday, sponsored by Tom Cotton and Dan Crenshaw, would allow Americans affected by the SARS-CoV2 virus to sue the Chinese government for damages, in U.S. courts. Crenshaw asserts that facing millions of lawsuits, China should instead settle with the U.S., paying off the damages of the coronavirus in the United States.
Gaetz has been promoting conspiracy theories that the virus was created in a lab in Wuhan, China, and consistently calling for an investigation and legal repercussions. Seizure of assets from Chinese-owned businesses in the U.S. represents one more such push.
