Marco Rubio Promotes Conspiracies About Joe Biden’s Mental State

The right-wing conspiracy theory that then-candidate Joe Biden was mentally unwell was particularly popular during the election, but has quieted significantly since he won and was inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States. However, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and conservative news commentator Sean Hannity worked to revive it on Fox News Tuesday evening.

In the clip below, Hannity floats the conspiracy theory, and Rubio jumps to confirm it, claiming there’s a double standard because Republicans have been criticized for forgetting points or repeating themselves during debates.

“[Biden] looks weak, frail. Obviously, he’s struggling cognitively,” Hannity claims. “If you disagree, tell me I’m wrong.”

“If you’re a foreign leader and you’re watching this stuff, they’re gonna make their own assessments,” Rubio replies, going on to suggest that a viewer could conclude Biden was a weak leader and “a puppet” who doesn’t have control.

Ironically, Rubia then mentions a meeting between Biden and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and stops to try and recall which day it was. (It was Monday.) “I believe it was today,” Rubio concludes, Tuesday evening, making a minor error that anyone could suffer, while condemning President Biden for doing the same thing.

“There’s no way they leave that meeting feeling like they’re dealing with a strong leader,” Rubio said.

The Washington Post reports that the meeting continued more than twice as long as scheduled and was cordial. The two Presidents reportedly discussed improving relationships between the countries, as well as immigration, climate change, and other major concerns.
