Mar-a-Lago No Shangri-La For Trump This Year

He already wasn’t in a good mood as he strode to the Marine One helicopter with wife Melania last week to depart for their holiday vacation in Florida, but things got worse when Donald Trump walked into his private living space at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach.

CNN reports that Trump looked around and became angry at what he saw of renovations that had been done to their place, some of which were overseen by the First Lady and her favorite interior decorator, Tham Kannalikham. “He was not happy with it,” a source told the network, noting that several loud, one-sided conversations with club management almost immediately ensued.

Melania, who’s had a couple of swings and misses on White House holiday decor, undertook the effort to make the 3,000 square foot space feel larger and not cramped when compared to their 55,000 square foot home of the past four years. It’s reported that Trump, who practically emptied out an Italian quarry of its lode of pink marble to construct the Trump Tower lobby, didn’t like the new white marble and dark wood she picked out. He ordered it removed immediately, which it was. A source told CNN that Trump was also not thrilled with some of the decorative updates to Camp David, another of Melania’s projects, when he saw them during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Trump’s kept largely to himself this year, although he was spotted with his two eldest sons, Eric, Don Jr. and junior’s girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle Sunday night. Recent Trump pardonee Roger Stone reportedly stopped by their table for a drive by hello after having entered the club wearing a Trump 2020 face mask.

But all may not be lost for Trump because even as millions of Americans struggle to survive during the surging coronavirus pandemic, the fabulous Mar-a-Lago black tie New Years Eve party is still a go. At least 500 reservations, with a price tag of several thousand dollars each, have been confirmed for the gala. Trump and his family typically attend, although the White House has not confirmed if that will be the case this year.
