The Old Car Was Gathering Dust
He had an immense admiration for his father, wishing to become like him in the future. His father's death was abrupt, and it was clear that life would not be the same afterwards.

His brothers tried to prevent him from getting any of their father's wealth, and made him leave the house. The only thing he had was an old, unused car in the garage. But his dad had something up his sleeve that his son never expected.
His Father
Tommy's emotions were shattered when he received the news about his father. He became enveloped in a fog of sorrow as time passed, striving to lessen the hurt he was experiencing. Unfortunately, his anguish did not lessen.

Tommy had a strong bond with his dad, he benefited greatly from it. Tommy's dad always had his back and they were like pals. He had guaranteed Tommy he would never abandon him, yet when Tommy answered the phone that day, his life changed drastically.
Losing A Parent
When we are young, we do not contemplate the day we will no longer have our parents. Even though we come to terms with it as adults, there is no denying that it is a scary concept.

Tommy Hawthorne was overwhelmed with grief because not only had he lost his dad, but the consequences of his passing would cause Tommy even more sorrow. He couldn't comprehend why his father had caused him so much pain.
Single Dad
Tommy and his siblings were raised by their affluent author father. They matured in London without a mother, with their dad raising them on his own. He strived to supply them with all they ever desired and take care of them.

His dad had never articulated it, but he had a special fondness for his youngest child, Tommy, and there was a specific justification for it.
Confused
His father always had a special place in his heart for Tommy, as his mom had passed away while Tommy was being born. His dad constantly reminded him that his mother, before departing to the afterlife, had granted him the gift of Tommy as her last present.

Tommy's brothers and sisters saw their dad dote on him with tenderness, and they didn't always feel content about that. Nonetheless, Tommy was perplexed as to why his dad bequeathed him a piece of metal supposed to be an automobile after his passing. How had Tommy received that when his siblings obtained their childhood residence and lots of cash?
Different From His Brothers
Tommy's brothers all quit high school, but he was the only one to go to college. He could tell he was distinct from them when they chose a lifestyle of revelry and showiness.

They always had access to what they desired, thanks to their father having the financial ability to provide for them. They lived a life full of female companionship and fancy vehicles, however, things were not going to stay the same.
Frozen And Trying To Recover
Tommy was taking a course in imaginative composition. Unexpectedly, his dad passed away before he could finish his postgraduate degree the next year. Upon receiving the news he was completely paralyzed and it took him a few weeks before he started to feel better, although it was a challenging process. Even after burying his father he was still in a state of disbelief.

He was only able to concentrate when he was with his siblings in the presence of their family attorney to talk about his dad's last wishes. He speculated that his dad had bequeathed him the home and sufficient funds to pay for his college expenses, but he never envisaged that his father would give him barely anything.
The Will
Tommy heard the lawyer explain that his dad had given away the property and almost all of his wealth to his brothers, while he was provided with an obsolete vehicle in the garage that had been left to age.

The vehicle was an old Shelby Cobra which had been abandoned in the garage for a lengthy period. When the boys eventually took a closer look, they noticed that the paint was peeling and the metal was corroded. It was a mere shadow of its former self, and they all pondered why their father would leave such a thing to Tommy.
Disbelieving
Tommy was completely taken aback. It was unfathomable why his dad would give him something like that. He had spent many years trying to make his father content, even striving to become a writer just like him.

Tommy pondered if he had been wrong about the bond and association he had with his dad. He desired to comprehend and assumed that his siblings could have been aware of something that he was not.
Following His Brothers
When the confab with the legal representative concluded, Tommy chose to pursue his siblings home. He desired to converse with them, eagerly expecting they would provide assistance with financing his education. This would be of great benefit, since he had various issues to work out now that his dad was no longer present.

He had recently gone inside the residence after his siblings, and noticed they had a peculiar conduct with him. He neglected it, but little did he understand that he would soon get to recognize their actual personalities.
The New Favorites
Tommy attempted to rest on his favored spot in the family room, yet his siblings instructed him to remain on his feet. They had been communicating their detestation for him quite a while.

Having obtained the deed to the house and virtually all of their dad's wealth, they made him leave, getting a tow truck to take away his possessions from their garage.
A Wet Dirt Party
Tommy was overwhelmed with rage when he stood outside the place he grew up and saw a line of young and attractive people going in. This came soon after he had sadly found out about his father's death.

The soil over his father's tomb hadn't had time to settle, yet his siblings had already commenced the festivities. Tommy rushed back in to reprimand them, instantly regretting his judgement.
Get Out
One of his siblings spotted him from the summit of the stairs, screaming for him to go out of their home. The other brother, who was engaging the visitors, heard the clamor.

He showed up with a hunting gun, aiming it at Tommy and telling him to go. "Dad can't be here to show partiality anymore," he said with a sob, swaying around as he attempted to keep the gun pointed at Tommy. "Beat it!
They Laugh At It
Tommy hastily left the building, with everyone laughing at him. Feeling isolated and miserable, he went to the garage to examine what his father had left behind.

The tow truck that his brothers had contacted arrived at the entrance to the garage, not allowing him to take a single step inside. His fury had once again converted to sorrow as he couldn't accept that his father had really passed away. Stepping into the garage and beholding the car would make it all seem more genuine. Tommy wasn't set for any of it.
Men Cry Too
He released his emotion through tears without making any sound. If this was something his father wanted him to have, he would readily accept it.

The tow truck arrived and removed the abandoned vehicle. It was so unexpected that Tommy had to contract a mechanic shop while driving. He was curious about what was extraordinary about this aged, useless car.
Alone Again
The tow truck lifted the car and placed it in Tommy's hired garage. The driver assisted him to move it inside and then left. After being alone again, Tommy was situated in the driver's seat with his hands firmly grasping the steering wheel.

Once more, his vision was clouded by the tears that streamed down his face. It was unfathomable that his siblings had thrown him out of the home twice. He longed for his dad, wishing the hurt would eventually vanish. Then, something in the glove compartment drew his attention.
An Envelope
Tommy discovered an envelope inside the glove box. It was a light-colored sheet of paper with two ends that were curved inwards. It had a worn-out look and Tommy became intrigued, so he pulled it out to investigate.

The day had been challenging for him, and any activity that would take his mind off his anguish was accepted. He hastily tore open the envelope, brushing away his tears before scanning the contents.
An Old Letter
The message was from a while back, according to its date. It was created by his father's writing. It expressed the immense fondness his father had for Tommy and his siblings.

The elderly gentleman had expressed his worries about what kind of future Tommy's brothers were going to have because of their hazardous habits. But towards the conclusion of the note, there were some words that really made Tommy sit up and take notice.
Call This Number
The finishing section of the letter revealed that Tommy's father had placed sixty thousand dollars in the trunk of his car. Alongside the cash, were some project plans that his dad wanted Tommy to undertake.

This letter said, 'Mend this item so it looks nice. There is a selling event in London. Once you are finished with it, take it there and give this number a call.'
What He Needs
Tommy pondered as he scrutinized the words on the page. His father requested that he mend an almost irreparable vehicle and bring it to London.

He inhaled deeply, believing he could manage it since his educational duties had been completed. He sought something to distract him from his current situation. Maybe this venture would be the answer.
Setting Up
Tommy headed off to school, making sure everything was in its right place. He skipped his other lessons in order to dedicate his time to repairing the vehicle and got right to it.

He first recruited professionals who were experienced with classic vehicles. Additionally, he compensated the garage where he was storing the car to allow him to remain for a few more months. He wanted to fulfill his father's last desire.
Getting To Work
The days went quickly, and Tommy's siblings would come to the motel he was living in to make fun of him. However, he would not reply in anger, only providing them with a mug of coffee before continuing with his day.

He had split the sixty thousand dollars he inherited from his dad between educational expenses, car maintenance, and the funds required to get the car to London. He had no idea how much time it would take to finish all of the tasks.
Two Years Down The Line
After a stretch of two years, Tommy was still tinkering with his car. His siblings had decided to sell their old home and travel the world in search of exciting experiences.

Tommy had urged them to not go ahead with their plan, however, they summoned the authorities who made him leave. Right now, he was finalizing the automobile.
A Showstopper
At first glance, Tommy understood what his father had been thinking. What had once been a worn-down wreck had now turned into a stunning sight that caused people to observe it wherever Tommy drove.

After taking an extra month to guarantee that the vehicle was running optimally and all pieces were functioning correctly, Tommy started organizing for the journey to London.
Going To London
Tommy tidied up his motel room and located a delivery truck to take him and his vehicle to London. His siblings had stopped dropping by ages ago and he would be sent away whenever he tried to visit their flats.

They had taken extreme measures to get rid of him, even going so far as to involve the police. It was obvious that they wished to have no connection to him, despite the fact that he was related to them.
The Least Beautiful Thing
For the last two years, Tommy has been toiling away at restoring an automobile. During this time, he has gained an understanding of the value of the small things. He has not been in an affluent situation and has faced various difficulties that often keep him up late.

He had gained an understanding of the worth of money, organization, and diligence. He knew he had to stay focused until the task was completed. In the end, the car was the least rewarding result of the journey. Now that he was done, he wasn't sure what the future had in store for him.
The Price
In a communication from Tommy's father, he instructed him to take the car to a public sale in London after repairing it. He hoped that the car would fetch a considerable amount of money, predicted to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

He was not interested in the cash, only that he had done his father's final request. However, when he drove into the exclusive London sale, he realized something.
All Eyes On Me
The entire crowd was focused on Tommy when his automobile made a loud noise as it pulled into the entrance. Royals, corporate leaders, government officials, and famous people gazed at him. He was about to experience a transformation in his life.

He discovered the individual his father desired him to meet, and soon his vehicle was one of those up for sale. He gazed at it with satisfaction, praying it would all work out.
The Bid
Tommy was astonished when the bidding for his car started at a million dollars. In the end, it went for more than five million, two times the amount that his siblings were given in their father's will.

Tommy was astonished. He had faith in his dad's decision-making and was remorseful about being cross earlier. He already had a plan for the cash.
A Lesson To Remember
Tommy made plans to acquire his old residence before he even came back. He contacted the real estate agent and purchased the property, along with all of the possessions inside.

He still had a good amount of money left, which he put into businesses, his schooling, and his writing profession. Being in his former room, he asked himself why his father did what he did. It's possible the elderly man wanted him to recognize the worth of labor and constancy. If that was the purpose, then Tommy would never overlook this lecture.
