Donald Trump has spent parts of the last year ranting and raving about climate activist Greta Thunberg. Just this week at a Davos conference where climate change was an important topic, the President couldn’t resist taking a shot at the teen.
This week, Steve Mnuchin, in lock step with his boss, criticized Thunberg saying that she should study economics before giving her opinion. Over the weekend, the Treasury Secretary’s wife Louise Linton, took the teen activist’s side in a now deleted Instagram post.
While at Davos, Mnuchin mocked the teen, saying, “After she goes and studies economics in college, she can come back and explain that to us.”
Thunberg coolly responded, “It doesn’t take a college degree in economics to realize that our remaining 1.5° carbon budget and ongoing fossil fuel subsidies and investments don’t add up. So either you tell us how to achieve this mitigation or explain to future generations and those already affected by the climate emergency why we should abandon our climate commitments.”
Tagging both the teen and her husband’s Instagram accounts, Linton wrote, “I stand with Greta on this issue. (I don’t have a degree in economics either) We have to drastically reduce our use of fossil fuels. Keep up the fight @gretathunberg.”
The post didn’t stay up on the site for long, as Linton deleted it soon after. The post, though, was captured by a number of users and is easily accessible online.
