Liz Cheney Goes Scorched Earth on Steve Scalise’s Trump Election Lies

Since Donald Trump’s election loss in November of last year, Republicans have gone in one of two directions. Mitch McConnell has tried to move the party forward, saying Trump lost and hurt the party. Kevin McCarthy has remained as loyal as ever, toadying to Trump at every chance.

WASHINGTON, DC – JULY 27: Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) listens during the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol on July 27, 2021 at the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, DC. Members of law enforcement testified about the attack by supporters of former President Donald Trump on the U.S. Capitol. According to authorities, about 140 police officers were injured when they were trampled, had objects thrown at them, and sprayed with chemical irritants during the insurrection. As a result, McCarthy’s congress has been more Team Trump than the senate has. Former number 3 House Republican Liz Cheney was replaced with Elise Stefanik. And during a Sunday appearance on Fox News, Steve Scalise refused to admit that Biden had won the election. Later in the day, Cheney slammed the number 2 Republican in the House.

When asked by Wallace whether the election was stolen from Trump, Scalise hemmed and hawed refusing to answer the question. A clip of the segment was shared widely online.

Cheney, sharing a copy of the clip, wrote, “Millions of Americans have been sold a fraud that the election was stolen. Republicans have a duty to tell the American people that this is not true. Perpetuating the Big Lie is an attack on the core of our constitutional republic.”
