Listen: Maxine Waters Says She Will Never Forgive Black People Who Vote For Trump
In the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton won the African American voting block by a margin of 81%. While the margin is still very large, polls show Donald Trump is doing a bit better in attracting black voters in 2020. He has also received celebrity endorsements from figures like Kanye West and Lil Wayne.
Maxine Waters has long made it known that she is no fan of Donald Trump. The legendary California congresswoman has battled him since day one of his presidency. Waters recently said in a radio interview that she will not be able to forgive black people who vote for Trump.
The congresswoman made the comments while speaking with SIRIUS XM’s Joe Madison. “t just hurts me so bad to see Blacks talking about supporting Trump,” she said. “I don’t know why they would be doing it, I don’t know what’s on their minds, but if we don’t turn out this vote and turn it out huge, this man could end up winning again.”
Waters continued, “He’s a racist. He does not have any appreciation for Black people, and Black women in particular … He has no respect for us. He’s not doing anything for us. And for those Black young men who think somehow they can align themselves with Trump, not only are they terribly mistaken, any of them showing their face, I will never, ever forgive them.”
The congresswoman closed by saying, “It is absolutely unconscionable, it is shameful. But if they would spend some time with us, we would help them to know what we’re struggling for, and how they would be able to help us in the struggle.”
