Lindsey Graham To Go Vote-Hunting At South Carolina Gun Range
Lindsey Graham raised many eyebrows on Sunday when he revealed that he is the proud owner of a semi-automatic AR-15 assault-style rifle. The Republican South Carolina senator told Fox News’ anchor Chris Wallace that he owns the weapon because “if there’s a natural disaster in South Carolina where the cops can’t protect my neighborhood, my house will be the last one that the gang will come to because I can defend myself.”
Many on social media doubted the veracity of his claim. Tomorrow, April 1st, looks like it could be Graham’s opportunity to make fools of the doubters of his firearms prowess. Or, maybe of himself.
On Tuesday Graham’s legislative office sent out a media advisory indicating that the senator will visit the Palmetto State Armory – a gun range – in Greenville, S.C., “to show his support for the Second Amendment.” The announcement indicated that Graham will “visit the indoor range and then speak with reporters about his opposition to the Assault Weapons Ban.” It also says he will be joined by Mark Olivia, the director of public affairs for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, which is a trade association for the firearms industry.
President Joe Biden has stated that he is in favor of strengthening background checks for potential gun purchasers and wants to ban the military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines in the wake of the recent mass murders in Georgia and Colorado. Graham and other Republicans feel it’s perfectly okay for those weapons to be readily available to the general public.
