Wisconsin will be one of the most important states during the 2020 election. The traditionally Democratic leading state broke for Donald Trump in 2016 and helped deliver him an electoral college victory. And many residents of the state support the Green Bay Packers.
Mike Holmgren is a Green Bay Packers legend. He was the coach of the team from 1992-1998 and won a Super Bowl title with the team in 1997. And Holmgren recently threw his support behind Joe Biden.
Holmgren recently appeared on a virtual fundraiser alongside Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich. The coach said that he has become more Liberal over the years and knows that Wisconsin is crucial to Democratic hopes in in 2020.
“The people own the football team, and yet the stadium’s going to be empty,” Holmgren told the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “It didn’t have to be this bad, I don’t think.”
The coach then blamed Trump’s recent response to COVID-19 for a lot of the pain Wisconsinites are feeling. “Make the decision based on what you believe has happened,” Holmgren said of the upcoming election. “What has happened, how truthful has it been, how have our leaders right now done during this time of pandemic?”
Holmgren ended the interview for lauding the fans of the team. “There is nothing like the feeling the people have about the Packers in Green Bay,” he said.
