Leader of All-White Armed Mob Arrested in North Carolina After Interrogating Black Teenager
Earlier this week, video surfaced of an armed Father and Son shooting a jogger dead in Brunswick, Georgia. After 74 days, the two men, Gregory and Travis McMichael were arrested and will now face charges of murder and aggravated assault.
Now, in New Hanover, North Carolina, there is another case of armed white men attempting to take the law into their own hands. The leader of the group, an off-duty Deputy has now been arrested along with one other man.
According to WECT News, an armed group of men came to the door of Monica Shepherd demanding to know the whereabouts of a girl next door who had gone missing. The door was answered by her teenage son Dameon.
The men, some of whom were carrying rifles, demanded to be let inside the home. Monica Shepherd then called the police, who came and diffused the situation.

J.D. Kita, who led the mob, was a Sheriff’s Deputy for the New Hanover police. He has been fired from his job. Kita, who was dressed in his uniform during the incident, has also been charged with forcible trespass, breaking and entering, and willful failure to discharge duties.”
Another member of the mob, Austin Wood, “will be charged with going armed to the terror of the community.”
Monica Shepherd says of the incident, “We are a quiet close knit family. It was traumatic and shocking, but I’m just thankful that it wasn’t worse. I’m going to trust that they’re going to make the right decisions based on what they’re able to do and based on what the law allows them to do, I mean just this much has given me peace of mind knowing that they were going to continue further [in the investigation]. So, I’m confident, so far with the way things have been handled.”
