Larry Hogan: Trump Endorsed Candidates Will Lose and His Hold on the Party Will Fade

While the 2024 election is years away, candidates are already jockeying for position. Trump, of course, is desperate for the Republican nomination and will come down hard on anyone who runs against him. Ron DeSantis is trying to out-Trump the former President by going to war against Disney.

There will also be candidates presenting themselves as a return to normalcy in the party. Former Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson hinted that he could be one of them this past weekend. Larry Hogan, the Republican governor of Maryland could be another.
Despite Maryland being a deep blue state, Hogan has remained very popular there. And he has often attacked Trump, refusing to vote for him in both 2016 and 2020. And during an upcoming speech in California, Hogan will continue to attack the former President.
The Maryland governor’s comments were acquired in advance by Axios. He plans on saying, “People will not be nearly as afraid and won’t feel like it’s a requirement to pair with what Trump’s saying or need his endorsement to win an election because, I think, most of the people that he’s endorsing are going to lose.”
I love Larry Hogan but this is wishful thinking. My prediction: If Trump runs he will have no real opposition and will easily win the nomination. If Trump doesn’t run, Ron DeSantis will win the nomination by promising Trumpism without Trump. That is what the GOP has become. https://t.co/ZPaHyfunw3

Hogan will continue, “Trump is the 800-pound gorilla. He’s still popular among many segments of the base… but it’s diminished dramatically since the election.”
