Lara Trump Won’t Be Running for North Carolina Senate Seat After All
Donald Trump was voted out of office in 2020, but he made it clear that he expected to stay involved in politics. And it was also expected that the patriarch wouldn’t be the only Trump seeking public office.
Donald Trump Jr. has hinted that he might want to run for Mayor of New York City at some point. His father threw cold water on the idea, though, saying that a Republican couldn’t win in the city.
There were also rumors that Ivanka Trump could run for a senate seat in Florida. She shut these rumors down, however, when she came out in support of Marco Rubio.
The most likely Trump family member to run for office was Lara Trump. The wife of Eric Trump had hinted that she would seek a North Carolina senate seat opening up upon the retirement of Richard Burr. On Saturday night, though, Lara Trump announced she would be chasing the seat.
The daughter-in-law of the former president told a North Carolina crowd that due to the age of her children, “it is going to be very hard for me to enter this Senate race right now. But, I am saying no for now, not no forever.”
Donald Trump then came out to throw his endorsement behind Ted Budd. He told the 1200 attendees, “This gentleman is going to be your next senator. He’s going to be somebody that you’re going to be so proud of. He will fight like hell. He will fight like nobody fights.”
